Formerly Chairman of Global Capital Markets at J.P. Morgan, Ian has worked on over 300 transactions in over 40 countries in a 30 year period. Ian’s capital markets experience includes transformational transactions for BHP Billiton, Xstrata, BT, SABMiller, Pakistan Telecom, Rio Tinto, Rosneft and HSBC. He built J.P. Morgan’s natural resources business into the No. 1 franchise in the sector and is responsible for introducing to the London market – and growing into leading blue chip stocks – several of the major diversified mining companies (BHP Billiton, Xstrata). Ian is a former Captain in the Territorial Army and has degrees from Imperial College (BSc Eng) and London Business School (MBA, MSc Econ). He is also a Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE, CEngl, FEANI).


Neil was formerly at J.P. Morgan Cazenove for nine years where he worked in natural resources corporate finance and capital markets. His clients included Xstrata (whom he advised on their merger with Glencore), Ophir, Genel Energy and New World Resources. He has raised over $30bn in capital in more than 45 capital markets transactions in his career as well as advising on a number of the resource industry’s transformational mergers and acquisitions. In 2012 Neil was named one of the Rising Stars of Finance by Financial News. Neil was formerly a helicopter pilot in the British Army and has an MBA and an MA (Oxon).


Formerly CEO and Chairman of Canaccord Genuity’s European operations, Tim began his banking career at Laing & Cruikshank as a mining analyst. Appointed partner in 1979, he joined the management committee in 1981. As a leading adviser to the mining industry he led key transactions, including the financing of the golden mile in Kalgoorlie and the first monies raised for Barrick Gold. In 1990 Tim established T. Hoare & Co. Limited, a London-based investment dealer specialising in the resources sector, which was later acquired by Canada’s Canaccord Genuity. As CEO of Canaccord’s European operations, he raised in excess of £25bn in Europe and listed more than 40 companies on the London Stock Exchange.


Formerly a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan, Rupert is an equity and equity-linked capital markets investment banker with experience in London, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. His career involved working on ground-breaking transactions for clients across a wide range of geographies and industries as he helped build and lead J.P. Morgan teams in Hong Kong, the Middle East and London. Rupert spent 13 years in Asia and three years building J.P. Morgan’s Middle East capital markets business. He has an MSc from Bristol University.

Giles Fitzpatrick

Giles has 25 years of investment banking experience focusing on global capital markets. Prior to joining Hannam and Partners in 2014 Giles was President and Head of Capital Markets at Canaccord Genuity in London. From 2005 to 2008 Giles led Fox–Pitt, Kelton (specialist FIG Investment Bank) as CEO following an MBO from Swiss Re – Giles and the management of FPK teamed up with JC Flowers on the buyout from Swiss Re.

Prior to joining FPK, Giles spent five years on the Global Equities Management Committee at ABN AMRO, first as Global Head of Trading and latterly as Head of European Equities. Before the purchase of Hoare Govett by ABN AMRO Giles was MD for Secondary Markets at Hoare Govett. Giles has a BA from Southampton University.


Andrew was previously a Managing Director at Canaccord Genuity where he worked for almost eight years in the natural resources team. He has a broad range of international corporate finance, capital markets and M&A experience focussing on the metals, mining and natural resources sector. He has successfully advised on numerous IPOs, public and private equity and convertible capital raises and M&A transactions including AIM, TSX, ASX, NASDAQ and Official List companies, with a particular focus on Africa and the FSU. Prior to joining Canaccord Genuity, he spent four and a half years with law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner and is a qualified solicitor. He has a first class law degree from Manchester University


Ingo has 17 years’ experience in corporate finance, corporate M&A and general management in Europe, Africa and Asia. Formerly with Rio Tinto, focusing on JVs and multi-jurisdictional transactions, he worked on the $5bn takeover of Ivanhoe, the integration of Riversdale and concluded a JV between Rio Tinto and Chinalco. Prior to this, Ingo was four years MD of Wienerberger in India and two years with Wienerberger’s corporate finance team in Vienna responsible for corporate M&A work & financial planning for the group. Ingo has an MA in Business (University of Eisenstadt – Austria) and is an INSEAD (Asian International Executive Programme – Shanghai) graduate. He is a CFA charterholder since 2004, attended the Imperial College “Mining Valuation” course and holds an Austrian engineering degree. His sector and commodity experience spans coal, bauxite and aluminium, iron ore, potash, phosphates, uranium, base metals, steel, alloys and building materials.


Arabella specialises in capital raising and the market-focussed side of the business at Hannam & Partners. Prior to joining in January 2014, Arabella was a Director at Canaccord Genuity and was ranked as the #3 individual in UK small & mid cap mining in 2013 (Extel). Over five years at Canaccord she became established as a published research analyst (Support Services) and eventually a specialist salesperson focussing on the resources sectors. Prior to joining Canaccord Arabella worked with multi-asset hedge funds at Barclays Capital. She joined Barclays after graduating with a 1st from Pembroke College, Cambridge.


A former Credit Suisse and J.P. Morgan Cazenove banker with over 15 years of investment banking expertise, Chris has worked with a wide range of private and public companies on the London markets, focusing on the industrials and mining sectors and, most recently, on businesses with emerging market assets seeking access to UK capital markets. He has successfully executed a large number of IPOs, equity capital raises and M&A deals for clients including Evraz, Coca Cola HBC, ENRC, HSBC, Centrica, Reckitt Benckiser, Moneysupermarket.com, Pennon Group, Bodycote and Intermediate Capital Group. Chris is a mathematics graduate from University College London and a qualified chartered accountant.
He also leads the Firm’s sponsor business.


Paloma has over 11 years’ investment banking experience, seven of which she spent at J.P. Morgan. She covers advisory clients across EMEA in the Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors and has advised in over 18 completed transactions including M&A, debt and equity capital markets deals. Previously she interned at the Boston Consulting Group, Cuatrecasas and the Unisys Corporation. Paloma has First Class Honours degrees in Business Administration and Law from Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Spain.

Alex Holbourn

Alex Holbourn joined Hannam & Partners (H&P) as a Director in 2016. Prior to working at H&P, Alex was a Fund Manager and Senior Analyst at GFG Capital, where he set up the London office and ran a European equity fund focused on natural resources. He started his career at Merrill Lynch where he worked in oil & gas equities across specialist sales – together with the proprietary trading team – and then latterly at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in research where he led coverage on all of the listed Exploration & Production companies covered by the firm in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Alex holds an MA in Law (Jurisprudence) from Brasenose College, University of Oxford.


Samuel has diverse experience in energy investments and transactions. He leads in sourcing and executing M&A and capital raising projects in the energy, power and oilfield services sectors globally. Previously, he served in the U.S. Department of Defense’s Task Force for Business and Stability Operations, where he was responsible for structuring, negotiating and managing the implementation of Afghanistan’s first-ever oil & gas production sharing contracts. His portfolio included managing geophysical assessments, monitoring operators’ work programs and field development plans, and developing crude marketing and refining logistics. Samuel is member of the Association for International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) and sits on AIPN’s Leadership Committee for its Young Negotiators program. He is a graduate with honours from Union College and completed studies at Central European University, University of Tuebingen and Babes-Bolyai University.

Roger Bell

Roger Bell is Director of Mining Research at Hannam & Partners, providing equity market and industry insights for investor clients. Roger has over 10 years’ experience in mining & metals equity research, having worked at UBS, Sanford C Bernstein and J.P. Morgan Cazenove. Immediately prior to joining H&P in 2017, Roger headed J.P. Morgan’s European Steel Sector research, with the team’s achievement recognised in the 2016 Institutional Investor survey. Roger holds a Masters in Mathematics from Oxford University, graduating with first class honours and is a CFA charter holder.

Alejandro Demichelis

Alejandro is a highly experienced equity research analyst specialising in Oil & Gas. In the last few years he has held a global role, while keeping focus on Latin America. Alejandro has been consistently a top ranked European Oil & Gas sell-side analyst at both Extel and Institutional Investor surveys.
Before working at Hannam & Partners, Alejandro was Head of Upstream Investments at Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC).
Between 2005-2014, Alejandro was Managing Director of Oil & Gas Equity Research at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Exane BNP Paribas covering all oil & gas sub-sectors (E&Ps, Oil Services and Majors). Prior to this he was a Senior Consultant at oil & gas consultancy Wood Mackenzie focusing on global energy markets.

James Ward

James is an accomplished entrepreneurial accountant who founded Whale Rock in 2004 and then sold it to Capita plc in 2012. He has significant advisory and transaction experience in both private and public markets including acting as CFO of IMIC plc and Fitbug plc. James was previously Finance Director of Global Coal Ltd and has extensive experience in the natural resources sector.

John was formerly Chairman of Robert Fleming Holdings Limited. He was a director of the Securities and Investment Board between 1986 and 1993 and was appointed a CBE in 1992 and Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire in 1999. He was the Chairman of the London Investment Banking Association between 1994 and 1998. He was also Chairman of Delancey and Shaftesbury, Deputy Chairman of Colliers CRE and Director of Capital Shopping Centres and Stock Conversion.

Michael was formerly acting Global Head of Equity Compliance for Barclays Capital. He has also held positions as Global Head of Compliance at JPMorgan Cazenove, Co Global Head of Compliance and Legal at Swiss Re (Capital Management and Advisory) and Head of Investment Banking Compliance at Nomura International.

Ian was formerly Head of International Portfolios and Manager of Natural Resources Funds at J.P. Morgan Asset Management for over 20 years, with extensive knowledge of the mining and oil & gas industries. He spent nine years as Director and CIO of Wardley Investment Services International, and five years as an international portfolio manager in London and New York for Morgan Grenfell & Co. He is a qualified accountant and graduated from Edinburgh University with an MA in Philosophy & Politics and an LLB in Scots Law.

Simon Davies

Simon has 16 years’ experience in restructuring. He began his career as a lawyer, training and working at Linklaters and then Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. In 2004, he joined the restructuring group at Close Brothers Corporate Finance, following which he was a Managing Director of the European restructuring team at Blackstone, as a part of the Close Brothers team that moved to Blackstone in 2007 to establish their European restructuring advisory practice. Simon has worked for both companies and lenders on some of the largest and most complex restructurings of the last two restructuring cycles. These include Eurotunnel, and the Drax power station, in the restructuring cycle driven by deregulation, and clients Northern Rock, the administrators of Lehman Brothers Europe and MBIA in the financial crisis. He has also provided strategic capital structure advice for various institutional and sovereign clients.

Joachim Godet

Joachim has over 12 years of investment banking experience in mergers & acquisitions and capital markets within leading financial institutions including Macquarie, Lazard and HSBC. Most recently he worked in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as head of M&A transaction structuring for Saudi Aramco, where he dedicated his time to the setup of Saudi Arabian Industrial Investment Company as well as several complex downstream and upstream JV transactions geared towards bolstering local industry, employment and Saudization through the creation of national champions.

Fergus Marcroft

Fergus has 17 years capital markets experience with the last decade being focused on the natural resources sectors. He joins from Macquarie, where he led the UK mid-market oil & gas sector origination and corporate broking efforts. Prior to Macquarie, Fergus led the oil franchise at Liberum. Over the course of his career, Fergus has advised and raised capital for numerous oil & gas companies including: Hurricane Energy, Bowleven Oil & Gas, Rockhopper Exploration, Nautical Petroleum, Andes Energia, Kentz Construction, Hallin Marine and RPS Energy.
